Investigations into reports of Rashtriya Janata Dal member Mohammad Shahabuddin's appearing an exam have revealed that the elusive member did not take the LLB test and police is looking for four persons, one of whom is believed to be a "ghost writer".
"Police is trying to ascertain the identities of the four persons who had stayed in a hotel in Muzaffarpur and used a Scorpio jeep to reach the examination centre on all examination dates between September 21 and September 28," Deputy Inspector General of Police (Tirhut range) Gupteshwar Pandey told reporters on Wednesday.
The investigations have so far revealed that the member himself did not appear the examination and a 'ghost writer' appeared the examination for him, he said, adding that police were trying to zero in on the four persons who stayed at a hotel in the town.
"It appears that a racket was going on in the college for quite some time. The police probe will also find out how many more students did a Shahabuddin by engaging ghost writers in the LLB part 2 examinations," the deputy inspector general said.
Meanwhile, raids at the residence of an absconding clerk of the SKJ Law College, called Lochan, yielded a diary containing 12-13 names including that of Shahabuddin, he said.
Out of the 15 invigilators, who were asked to record their statements before superintendent of police Ratan Sanjay, who is probing the case, two were deposed today. Investigations have already revealed that Shahabuddin's answer scripts did not carry any registration number but only the roll number.
There is a nation-wide alert against Shahabuddin for pending non-bailable arrest warrants against him in connection with seizure of firearms, foreign currencies, stolen vehicles and deer during police raids at his ancestral Pratappur residence in April.
