Backing India's moves to find a political resolution of the Kashmir issue, Britain on Wednesday said it had asked Pakistan to adhere to the United Nations Conventions on terrorism.
Asserting that the fight against terrorism has to be 'hundred per cent', visiting British Defence Secretary John Reid said London welcomed moves to find a 'political resolution' of the Kashmir issue saying that violence should have no place in this.
After an hour-long meeting with his Indian counterpart Pranab Mukherjee, Reid said the issues in the region, including events in neighbouring Nepal and Bangladesh, had figured prominently.
"We support India's quest for a peaceful solution to events in Nepal and with Bangladesh and in Kashmir," Reid said.
The British Minister, who arrived here after talks with Pakistani leaders, said, "We told the Pakistani leaders that there is need to be opposed to terrorism wherever it occurs and however it occurs."
Asked if he had impressed on the leaders in Islamabad to shut down terrorist camps, Reid said he had told Pakistan Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz 'to look carefully at supporting UN Conventions on terrorism, which we hope all support'.
"I urged them to do everything in general to combat terrorism and specially in one case for action against a prominent Taliban leader operating inside Pakistan, apparently freely," he said.
