The Bharatiya Janata Party chief L K Advani demanded on Friday that President A P J Abdul Kalam advise Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to step down on moral grounds in the wake of Supreme Court's order declaring the dissolution of Bihar assembly as 'unconstitutional'.
Advani also suggested that Governor Buta Singh be removed in order to ensure 'free and fair' elections in Bihar.
"Dr Singh has said he doesn't disown the moral resposibility for the dissolution of the House, declared unconstitutional by the apex court. He should quit immediately," he told reporters in Patna, on his arrival from New Delhi for campaigning.
Charging the Union cabinet with having 'misled' the President while seeking dissolution of the house, he said the National Democratic Alliance delegation, which met Kalam in New Delhi on Thursday, had urged him to advice Dr Singh to resign on moral grounds.
"We told the President that you have been misled by the union cabinet. There was no basis for recommending the dissolution of the House, particularly at the time when the President was abroad," he said, referring to the meeting.
Advani also accused Governor Buta Singh of 'blatant violation' of the model code of conduct and sought his recall to ensure free and fair elections in Bihar.
