In an apparent bid to show her down, Lok Janshakti Party president Ramvilas Paswan has fielded his driver Pramod Kumar Singh against former chief minister Rabri Devi from the Raghopur seat.

Raghopur falls under the Hajipur parliamentary constituency, held by Paswan since 1977, and which has twice elected him with record margins.

Pramod Kumar Singh, a resident of the affluent Khilwat village in Raghopur assembly, has been serving as an honorary driver of Paswan and handling almost all of his confidential business.

Raghopur, a Yadava-dominated constituency, goes to polls in the second phase on October 26. In the last assembly elections, Singh, a Yadav himself, was assaulted by rowdy elements when he was campaigning for LJP candidate Rajiv Ranjan, who lost to Rabri Devi, by over 18,000 votes.

A confident Singh told PTI that he would script a chapter in history by defeating Rabri Devi by a huge margin.

On putting up Pramod Singh from Raghopur, Paswan said, "Singh being a Yadava will cut into the votes of Rabri and with the support of Rajputs, Dalits, and other extremely backward castes, he will be able extinguish Rabri's lantern."

Rabri, on the other hand, did not see Pramod Singh as any potential threat and said, "Paswan's bungalow will be thrown into the Ganga by the voters."

The bungalow and the lantern are symbols of LJP and Rashtriya Janata Dal, respectively.
