A first information report was lodged against former Bihar chief minister Rabri Devi, who is the Rashtriya Janata Dal candidate from Raghopur assembly constituency, on the charge of violation of the model code of conduct.

Police officials in Hajipur, district headquarters of Vaishali, said on Thursday that the FIR alleged that Rabri had surpassed the limitation of the model code of conduct at the time of her nomination on October 4 by using 20 vehicles.

Sanjiv Hans, district magistrate and election officer, confirmed that the FIR was filed against Rabri, who is seeking a third consecutive term from Raghopur. In the previous election, she won by over 26,000 votes.

Hans also added that he had ordered the suspension of an executive magistrate and inspector of Mahua police station for allowing RJD president and Rabri's husband, Lalu Prasad, to use a vehicle without a number plate while going from the helipad to an election rally at Cherhakal in Mahua block recently.

He said that the concerned police station had been asked to register an FIR against Shivchandra Ram, the RJD nominee for Mahua, who owned the vehicle, for violation of the election code.

The district magistrate said officers in-charge of Rajapakar, Jurawanpur, Desri and Patepur police stations had been removed and asked to report at Vaishali police lines for not strictly enforcing the provisions of the model code.

An election rath of the United Progressive Alliance has also been seized for moving in the district without prior permission, he added.
