Electioneering in Bihar was Friday hampered by intermittent rains as helicoptors, the most favoured mode of transport among politicians on the campaign trail, remained grounded at the Jayaprakash Narayan airport in Patna.
The people of Patna missed the constant whirring of choppers during the day as no chopper other than the ones of National Democratic Alliance chief ministerial candidate Nitish Kumar and Secular Democratic Front's 'understood choice' for the post, former chief minister Rabri Devi appeared on the skyline.
Leaders of all major contenders for power were compelled to either cancel their scheduled election meetings or go by road for door-to-door campaign to the constituencies close to the state capital due to rains.
The state hangar at Patna airport, which is agog these days wore a desolate look during the day with hardly any leader or supporter or even a byte-hungry scribe hanging on there.
Though the helicoptors of Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, his bete-noire Ram Vilas Paswan took off, their pilots preferred to return due to inclement weather conditions. Both Prasad and Paswan later opted for door-to-door canvassing.
Other leaders who also cancelled their scheduled election meetings in the constituencies going to poll in the second phase in Bihar on October 26, were Union Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal, Union Minister of State for Food Processing Subodh Kant Sahay, All India Congress Committee general secretary Digvijay Singh and Janata Dal-United parliamentary board chairman Sharad Yadav.
