The Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday demanded the sacking of Union Minister of State for Water Resources Jaiprakash Narain Yadav after he was booked for allegedly securing wrongful release of his brother, Vijay Prakash, from police custody.
"Yadav should set an example and surrender. And if he does not, police should arrest him," BJP General Secretary Arun Jaitley said.
His comments came in the wake of police registering a case against Yadav on the Election Commission's recommendation for securing 'illegal release' of his brother who was under arrest for carrying liquor, a rifle and ammunition during Tuesday's polling in Bihar.
"The prime minister also owes responsibility. How can he retain such a person in his Council of Ministers," Jaitley asked as he attacked Yadav, a Rashtriya Janata Dal leader.
Earlier, Bihar police said Yadav and Mukteshwar Prasad, the suspended officer-in-charge of Khaira police station, were booked under Indian Penal Code sections for causing 'escape' of Prakash, an RJD candidate from Jamui, in police custody for a non-bailable offence.
"This is not a small issue. But we are happy that the EC has ordered tough action over it. The minister should be immediately removed from his post now," Jaitley said.
