A first information report has been registered against an Uttar Pradesh minister and two Samajwadi Party members of Legislative Assembly for violation of prohibitory orders and illegally confining a police officer on duty, official sources said on Tuesday.
West Champaran district magistrate Rahul Singh told PTI that an FIR was lodged with Bagaha police station in the district against UP minister Brahmashanker Tripathi and MLAs Radheshyam Singh and P K Rai for 'forcibly' freeing their vehicles, which were seized for violation of prohibitory orders.
They also illegally confined sub-divisional police officer of Bagaha, Kameshwar Paswan, on Monday.
Singh said the three had entered Bihar at Bagaha from adjoining Kushinagar district of Uttar Pradesh for the nomination of SP candiate from Dhanaha, Ramadhar Yadav, in a large convoy of vehicles.
When their vehicles, which were without permit, were seized for violation of prohibitory orders in view of the assembly polls in the district on November 13, they forcibly secured their release after intimidating the policemen.
Later, when the Sub-Divisional Police Ofiicer of Bagaha was returning after an official meeting at Kushinagar, Radheshyam Singh and Rai, along with others, intercepted his vehicle and held him hostage for three hours.
Paswan was later set free, following the intervention of Kushinagar police superintendent, Rahul Singh said. Singh said, apart from registering an FIR against the three, he had asked his Kushinagar counterpart to get a similar FIR lodged there.
Meanwhile, the trio's entry into West Champaran district has been barred, Singh said, adding he had asked the local police not not to allow more than one vehicle from Uttar Pradesh to enter the district at a time as a precautionary measure.
