Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will meet a nine-member delegation of People's Consultative Group from Assam on Wednesday and talk to them about the negotiations with United Liberation Front of Asom members in a bid to bring peace to trouble torn state.
The meeting is scheduled to be held at 7 Race Course Road around 1530 IST and would be attended, among others, by Dr Indira Goswami and Dr Mamoni Raisom and National Security Advisor M K Narayanan.
According to government sources, Dr Singh would initiate the discussions and hear the problems and later on Narayanan would take over the discussions.
Talking to newsmen in New Delhi, Arup Borbora, head of the delegation, emphasised that they would not be raising any contentious issue during their meeting with the prime minister.
"After 27 years, ULFA has involved any civil group in the peace negotiations and we would try to create conducive and congenial atmosphere to pave way for holding negotiations with ULFA," he said.
The group would seek government's assurance that if the ULFA leaders accept the offer for holding talks they would be allowed to travel to New Delhi without being harmed and allowed to go back to the places where they come from.
The fears stem out of the statement of the chief of the army staff General J J Singh who said that ULFA is a terrorist group.
Efforts would be also be made have a ceasefire in place as a part of the confidence building measure between the government negotiators and the ULFA militants.
