Going full steam with its preparations for a free and fair assembly poll in Bihar, the Election Commission has convened a meeting of poll observers from the state on Tuesday for a briefing session.

Nearly 300 observers, both general and expenditure, would attend the meeting, which would be addressed by the three-member EC led by Chief Election Commissioner, B B Tandon, EC sources said.

The observers' meeting comes a day ahead of the full EC's visit to Bihar on Wednesday for a detailed review of electoral preparedness in the state, where polls will be held in four phases from October 18.

Tandon and other Commissioners, N Gopalaswami and Navin Chawla, will go into the poll preparations in the districts where polling will be held in the first two rounds on October 18 and 26.

The ECs would have discussions with district magistrates and senior police officials. Notification for the first phase of polling is to be issued on September 23.

Tandon has already paid four visits to Bihar to review the preparations. The four-phased polling would be held on October 18 and 26 and November 13 and 19. Counting of votes for the 243 assembly constituencies will be taken up on November 22.
