With fresh charges being framed against Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav in the multi-crore fodder scam, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should "throw him out" of his Council of Ministers if he had any "shred of morality left".
"Lalu has lost the moral right to stay in office after charges were framed against him in the fodder scam for the fourth time. He should resign immediately," BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar told reporters in New Delhi.
The charges were filed against Lalu and another former Bihar chief minister Jaganath Mishra by Central Bureau of Investigation courts in Ranchi Monday.
"But the question is not just if Lalu will step down or not, but also whether the prime minister and United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi uphold any moral values.
To a question, Javadekar said the cases against Lalu and BJP president Lal Kishenchand Advani were different. "Lalu is accused in a criminal case whereas Advani's case relates to a political agitation," the BJP spokesman said.
He said the people of Bihar would deliver the final verdict against the RJD chief by defeating him "for the second time" in the assembly elections.
