All the 135 children and 18 staff members who were stranded for the last four days at a boarding school in Bharwada village of Kheda district were rescued on Wednesday, District Superintendent of Police S S Trivedi said.

He said some of the children were rescued by boat and some were brought out by State Reserve Police and Central Reserve Police Force jawans on their shoulders.

Trivedi, under whose guidance the operation was undertaken, said the rescue effort became successful as the water level around the school receded by 3 feet.

He said all the children are safe and will be medically examined. They will be later sent to their residence.

The children were stranded for the last four days following heavy rains in Kheda district.

Operations to rescue the children were aborted on Tuesday due to intense flow of water around the school.
