The owners of Hitler's Cross restaurant in Mumbai, at the centre of a controversy after Jewish groups objected to its name, have decided to re-name the eatery.

"There is no point hurting the sentiments of a particular community over the name of a restaurant. We have decided to change its name and a new name will be announced in two days," Shakir Siddiqui, a partner in the restaurant at Kharghar in the satellite town of Navi Mumbai, told PTI.

The restaurant reportedly removed a poster of the Nazi leader from its premises on Wednesday. Siddiqui said the restaurant's owners took the decision after a meeting with Jewish Society of India chairman Jonathon Solomon on Thursday morning.

"Solomon will now convey our decision to the Israeli and German consulates," he said. After the restaurant's inauguration on August 18, a large section of people, including German Consul General Walter Stechel and Israeli Consul General Daniel Zohar Zonshine, had protested, alleging the German dictator's name was being glorified.
