CPM National Secretary General Prakash Karat told UNI in Patna that his party was opposed to any strategic military cooperation with America.
He said, ''We feel such an alliance is not in our interest in view of the double standard of the US government.'' He, however, emphasised for a good economic and political relationship with America.
''America is maintaining a dictatorial attitude towards other countries and its stand and strategies with respect to other nations are against our country too,'' said Karat.
He said, ''America is attacking the national sovereignty of other countries and such attitude will be a major threat to India in case the latter chose for tie up with the former.''
To a query on America`s reluctant attitude towards India in fighting terrorism as mentioned by Foreign Secretary Shyam Sharan, he said, ''It is a great irony that on one hand India is complaining about the non-cooperation of America in combating terrorism, and on the other it is trying to enter into military cooperation with the country, which is carrying double face on the vexed issues at global level.''
''My party is striving against military deal with America from the begining,'' said Karat adding that his party vociferously raised the issue of nuclear deal with US both at the public platform and in Parliament.
