Pakistan has said that authentication of the present troop positions of the two countries in Siachen on a "map is not acceptable" to it, rejecting India's condition for demilitarisation of the icy region.

"As far as indication of your locations (of troops in Siachen) is concerned, we can find a way to reflect your present position," Pakistan's outgoing High Commissioner Aziz Ahmad Khan said in New Delhi.

"Authentication of the present positions on a map is not acceptable. If we start delineating lines now and authenticating it on a map, then it creates difficulties," Khan told Outlook magazine.

India and Pakistan agreed last year to demilitarise Siachen where the frontier is not demarcated, but New Delhi has been insisting on proper authentication of the present troop positions.

Explaining the rationale behind the Pakistani position, he said the delineation of the line beyond NJ9842 was "something that needed to be done through peaceful negotiation".
