The Archeological Survey of India will convert India's first president Rajendra Prasad's ancestral house into a museum.
The house is in Prasad's hometown Ziradei in Bihar's Siwan district.
It is the first time that the ASI will adopt an old building belonging to a Bihar political leader connected with the country's freedom movement.
"Rajendra Prasad's 150-year-old ancestral house will be converted into a museum as a tribute to him. It will be ready by next year. The ASI had started work," P K Mishra, Superintendent of the ASI, Patna circle, told rediff.com.
According to official records, Rajendra Prasad, a Bharat Ratna, was born in his two-storied ancestral house.
Mishra said the ASI has ambitious plans to develop it on the lines of Anand Bhavan in Allahabad, the ancestral house of Jawahar Lal Nehru, the first prime minister of India.
"We have consulted Rajendra Prasad's grandson, who has assured us of all help and cooperation," he said.
