Former Bharatiya Janata Party president L K Advani said on Saturday that President Kalam could have avoided the controversy of Bihar Assembly dissolution if he had not signed the document and returned it.
"It is not only (former Bihar governor) Buta Singh who is to be blamed. The central government also had a role to play. Even the President could have returned Buta's letter without signing it," Advani told party workers.
He was speaking at a function to mark the 38th death anniversary of veteran freedom fighter Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay.
Advani said that while 2005 had not been a very good year for his party, it did manage to end the 15-year reign of Rashtriya Janata Dal in Bihar.
Scoffing at the Congress, Advani said that the party should take some lessons from the BJP on how to run a coalition government successfully.
He is scheduled to leave for Surendranagar to attend a festival on Sunday and will return to Gandhinagar, his Assembly constituency, to innaugurate a gas pipeline project on Monday.
