National Security Advisor M K Narayanan called on L K Advani at the Leader of the Opposition's home on Tuesday.

Sources in Advani's office told rediff.com the meeting lasted a little over 30 minutes.

Narayanan briefed Advani on issues related to the India-US nuclear deal, the Iran issue and other national security matters.

"Narayanan," the sources added, "presented the government's views on important issues."

The meeting assumes importance because the Manmohan Singh government is frequently accused of not taking the Opposition along on issues of national interest.

Hours before the encounter, a BJP statement alleged that, 'the UPA government has not kept the country fully informed about what it has actually agreed to in the agreement of July 18 with the US.'

'It is of paramount importance that India takes no such step as would deny it the needed flexibility of maintaining a minimum credible deterrent, enshrined as a policy postulate in India's nuclear doctrine,' the BJP said.

Sources said Narayanan assured Advani that India's "minimum credible deterrent will not be compromised" if the India-US nuclear deal is implemented.
