A Vaisali district court on Wednesday ordered property attachment of all accused in connection with an incident in which a woman and her five minor children were torched to death in their mud hut in Rampur Shyamchand village under Raghopur in the Vaisali district of Bihar.

The court also issued warrants against the 11 accused, who have been named in the first information report. Police had moved the court for property attachment.

While Jagat Rai, the main accused, is still at large, his wife, brothers-in-law and nephew have been arrested.

Six members of a family, including five children and a pregnant woman, were burnt alive on Sunday. This was done because the husband, Vijendra Mahta, refused to withdraw a police complaint he had filed against Rai for the theft of a buffalo.

Mahto was admitted to the Patna Medical College and Hospital with severe burn injuries and he is no longer in a critical condition.

Vaisali Superintendent of Police Prita Verma said a special police team was constituted to nab the killers. The team had raided several villages in search to arrest them. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had ordered a high level inquiry into the incident.
