A MiG 21 fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force crashed during a firing exercise northwest of Jamnagar in Gujarat Tuesday with the pilot ejecting out safely, an IAF spokesman said in Delhi.
The aircraft, involved in an air-to-ground live firing exercise, apparently developed a technical snag and crashed, the spokesman said.
No loss of life or property has been reported on the ground, he said adding, a court of inquiry has been ordered by the IAF to investigate the matter.
This is the first MiG 21 crash in 2006. In the last one decade, the IAF witnessed the lowest number of fighter aircraft crashes in 2005.
Meanwhile, Jamnagar District Superintendent of Police T Natrajan said the fighter aircraft crashed at the practice range within the Jamnagar Indian Air Force base.
