India and Pakistan on Thursday held official-level talks aimed at increasing cultural exchanges, including flow of tourists. Cultural Secretary Badal Das met his Pakistani counterpart Jalil Abbas on the first day of the two-day talksĀ in New DelhiĀ on Promotion of Friendly Exchanges.

Among the issues understood to have discussed at the meeting was allowing screening of Indian films and telecast of Indian channels in Pakistan. India has been pressing Pakistan to lift a ban on them in view of popularity of Bollywood films and TV serials in that country.

The two sides also reviewed the existing visa procedures to promote tourism and culture and discuss the cultural exchange programme for 2006-08. With the talks on Promotion of Friendly Exchanges, the official-level talks between the two countries under the third round of the Composite Dialogue will come to an end.

The third round of composite dialogue process, which comprises six issues, including Jammu and Kashmir and terrorism, was launched with Foreign Secretary-level talks in January.
