Following a Supreme Court directive that all political parties should be asked to vacate the bungalows in Delhi for alternative accomodation, the Union Cabinet has approved a proposal to give 500 square metres each of land to recognised national political parties.

Union Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee briefed the media about the decisions taken at the Cabinet meeting in New Delhi on Friday.

'According to the Supreme Court order, three political parties have to move out in next three years. They will be allotted land in the Institutional Areas. The invididual political parties will be given land according to their presence in Parliament. Parties having upto 15 members would get 500 sq meters, those having between 16-25 would get 1000 sq metres, 26-50 will get 2000 sq meters, 50-100 one acre, 100-200 two acres and 200 and above will get 4 acres of land', said a press statement.

State parties having seven MLAs and four MLA will get suitable accomodation in Vithal Bhai Patel house. These places would not be used for residential or commercial places, the note said.
