Zaheera's sister served notice

March 10, 2006 09:30 IST

The Vadodara police said a notice has been served on Thursday to Saheera Kalimuddin in Mumbai. She is the sister of Zaheera Sheikh, the prime witness in the Best Bakery case, who was sentenced to one year simple imprisonment by the Supreme Court.

Vadodara Police Commissioner Deepak Swaroop told PTI that a special team reached Mumbai and served a notice to Saheera. The team also launched a search for Zaheera and her mother Sherubnissa Sheikh in Mumbai.

Swaroop said notices have been sent to intelligence units in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, asking them to look out for Zaheera. Photographs of Zaheera and her family have also been pasted in the Hanuman Tekri area in Vadodara, apart from bus and railway stations and other public places.

Zaheera, who is originally from Basti district in Uttar Pradesh, had turned hostile in the Best Bakery case. A hig-powered committee of the Supreme Court found her to be a 'self-condemned liar' and she was sentenced to one-year simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000 for contempt of court.
