Police and Central Reserve Police Force personnel opened fire Tuesday evening after some people threw a rope across the wall of a subjail in Jehanabad, which was the target of a naxalite attack in November 2005, official sources said.
District Magistrate Rana Avadhesh told PTI that the Bihar Police and CRPF posted at the sub-jail fired "a few rounds as some people were seen throwing a rope across the prison wall. All of them immediately fled the scene".
He ruled out the involvement of naxalites and said, "Some people were up to mischief."
The police were searching for them, he said.
Security has been tightened in the town, particularly at the jail, he said.
Hundreds of naxalites had stormed the jail on November 13, 2005, and freed nearly 400 inmates after killing nine persons.
