A Delhi court on Tuesday remanded Ashok Malhotra to the custody of the Central Bureau of Investigation till August 21. The CBI arrested Malhotra, the alleged kingpin of a multi-crore land scam in the capital, on Monday.

The investigating agency told the court that Malhotra would be confronted with the evidence collected during the raids at his Mukherjee NagarĀ  residence.

The CBI had recovered several land documents, 17 luxury cars with VIP number plates, Rs 17 lakh cash and approximately seven kg of gold during the raid.

"Considering the extent of investigations, I am satisfied that the 14-day custody is justified," said Special Judge S K Kaushik.

Earlier, Malhotra's counsel Ashok Soni submitted that CBI could not produce a single document to connect Malhotra with the case.

The agency contended that the custodial interrogation of the accused is required to unearth his alleged nexus with the other suspects.

The accused had also argued about the non-bailable warrant issued against him, saying he always wanted to cooperate in the investigation.

On August 4, the court had issued a NBW against Malhotra, who owns the Delhi Assembly canteen.

He is accused of colluding with five Delhi Development Authority officials and fraudulently acquiring plots meant for the resettlement of slum dwellers.
