Coimbatore blasts: 15 more granted bail

Fifteen more convicts in the 1998 Coimbatore serial blast case, who were found guilty of minor charges, have been granted bail by the special court in Coimbatore on Wednesday.

Judge K Uthirapathy, taking up applications of 26 convicts, who were among the 158 proved guilty in the cases, granted bail to 15 on their personal surety.

While the applications of nine convicts would be taken up on Thursday, along with 13 fresh applications, two would be taken up on August 17.

A total of 32 persons, including Abdul Nasser Madhani, chairman of Kerala-based People's Democratic Party, have been granted and released on bail, as a little over 100 convicts, with minor charges against them, have moved the court for bail.

Of the 166 arrested in connection with the February 14, 1998, blasts during the visit of Bharatiya Janata Party leader Lal Kishenchand Advani, claiming 58 lives, 158 have been convicted, 69 for major charges like criminal conspiracy, attempt to murder, murder and promoting hatred between two communities.
