The Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday slammed Congress chief Sonia Gandhi for standing by her "merchant of death" remarks against Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, saying the United Progressive Alliance chairperson has breached all limits of "political decency" with her comments.

In a two-pronged attack, the saffron party hit back at Communist Party of India-Marxist leader Sitaram Yechury for accusing it of supporting Maoists in Nandigram and demanded deployment of Central forces in the troubled region.

"The Congress and the Communist parties have mastered the art of propagating deceit, lies and total lies. It is indeed ironical that both parties are constantly falsely accusing the BJP for crimes, which are clearly identified with their own parties," BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said.

He said Sonia had crossed "all limits of political decency" with her remarks against Modi and such a statement only reflected her party's "undemocratic mindset".

The Congress party's "never-ending flip-flop" on the issue only showed its confusion, he said.

"The Congress which was responsible for the anti-Sikh riots, forced sterilisation and brutal killings during the emergency, fake encounters in Punjab and the death of minorities in Bhagalpur riots has no moral right" to talk about human rights violations.

Denouncing Yechury's remarks that the BJP was supporting Maoists and was hobnobbing with Islamic fundamentalists, he said it was Yechury who had brokered peace between Maoists and the government in Nepal and the CPI-M, which had surrendered before Muslim hardliners on the Taslima Nasreen issue.

He demanded pulling out of local police and deployment of Central forces in Nandigram so that victims of the violence can testify without fear.
