A local businessman's teenaged son, wanted in a hit-and-run case, confessed to the police on Thursday that he was driving the car when the incident took place on December 13, police sources claimed.
They said that the 16-year-old boy had told the police during interrogation that he was driving the Mercedes Benz when he lost control of the vehicle and collided with a two-wheeler first before running over 11 people sleeping on the pavement.
Two persons were killed on the spot while the motorcyclist succumbed to injuries later. Nine others were injured in the incident.
The boy, who was granted bail on Wednesday by a juvenile court after he surrendered before it, told police that he was returning from a late night film show along with his friends when the incident took place, the sources said.
"I swerved to avoid the two wheeler. I lost control. I do not know what happened," he reportedly told the police.
While granting him bail, the court ordered him to cooperate with investigating officials, following which the police questioned the boy today.
