Rajnath told to make decision: Advani

As a row brewed in the Bharatiya Janata Party over removal of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi from its parliamentary board, senior party leader L K Advani on Friday broke his silence over chief Rajnath Singh's new team, saying he played no role in its selection.

"I told Rajnath you take your own decision," he told PTI when asked about the controversy surrounding Singh's new national executive and office-bearers' team. "I have no more comments to offer."

In January, the Sangh-backed BJP president dropped Modi from the party's highest decision-making body and general secretary Arun Jaitley, the organisation's prominent media face, as its chief spokesman, triggering what appeared to be a new round of internal war in the main opposition.

Singh, however, had received support for his moves from former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who has expressed satisfaction with the BJP chief's new team.

"I am happy with the new team. It was formed after a lot of thought. Rajnath Singh has done his best to take everyone along," Vajpayee told reporters on February 1.

Vajpayee, who rejected suggestions that Singh has sparked disaffection by dropping Modi from the parliamentary board and Jaitley as spokesman, then described the team as a "balanced" composition.
