Just minutes after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav on Friday night announced that a CBI probe into the Nithari killings allegedly carried out by Moninder Singh Pandher and his servant Surinder alias Satish, Bharatiya Janata Party leaders in Delhi lost no time in claiming victory.
CBI director Vijay Shankar will constitute a special team to investigate the brutal killings in a day or two and another team to investigate the mysterious disappearance and killing of Meerut university lecturer Dr Kavita Chaudhary as well.
"Mulayam Singh had no option but to order a CBI probe because of the pressure brought on him by the BJP and other political parties and social organisations," said Ashok Pradhan, BJP MP, in a conversation with this correspondent.
While welcoming the move, he said that it would have been better if the chief minister had ordered the CBI probe on the first day itself.
Pradhan and other BJP members had taken out a dharna demanding free and fair investigations into the killings.
Meanwhile the narco-analysis of Moninder and Surinder in Gandhinagar is likely to continue for another couple of days.
Surinder in his confessions has reportedly admitted that he tried to eat the livers of dead children to cure his impotency and keep himself warm.
