Delhiites continued to shiver under severe cold wave conditions as they woke up to a foggy morning on Friday with the minimum temperature plunging below 5 degree Celsius.
A thick blanket of fog enveloped Delhi on Friday morning reducing visibility levels, but not affecting air, rail and road traffic. The fog, however, lifted as the day wore on.
The minimum temperature was recorded at 4.8 degree Celsius, down from Thursday's 5.2 degree Celsius, and two notches below the normal level. Thursday's maximum temperature was 18.9 degree Celsius.
The mercury had been hovering around 3 degree Celsius this week, with Monday recording the lowest of the season at 2.6 degree Celsius.
Met office said the cold wave conditions are likely to persist for a few more days with the minimum temperature in Delhi expected to hover around 4 degree Celsius. The mornings are also likely to be foggy.
The runway visibility level at the airport dipped to 1,200 metres at around 5 am, but did not affect air traffic and all international and domestic flights operated on schedule, airport sources said.
Normal visibility in several parts of Delhi also dipped to as low as 500 mt in the early morning hours, Met department sources said.
Fog had resurfaced in Delhi on Thursday, delaying 15 international and domestic flights.
