The Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday decided to procure 30 lakh colour television sets for the free distribution scheme during the year 2007-2008.

This was decided at a meeting of representatives of all parties, constituted for the implementation of the scheme and state officials, an offical press release said.

Tenders will be issued for procurement in August and contracts will be finalised towards the end of September.

The meeting decided to complete the second phase of colour TV distribution before the end of November 2007, the release said, adding that a total of 10,16,940 sets out of a total of 25 lakh sets planned for the second phase had already been distributed.

Chief Minister M Karunanidhi presided over the meeting, the release added.
