A court on Monday awarded ten years rigorous imprisonment to four persons, including two Hizbul Mujahideen militants, for possessing explosives to wage war against the country in 2001.
Additional Sessions Judge Ravinder Kaur, after holding them guilty under various provisions of the IPC and the Explosive Substances Act, also slapped a fine of Rs 1 lakh each on the Hizbul militants -- Gulzar Ahmed Wani and
Mohiuddin -- and SIMI activists--Firoz Rafi and Mumtaz.
According to the prosecution, the Hizbul militants, both hailing from Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir,
and the SIMI activists from Uttar Pradesh were arrested from New Delhi railway station on July 30, 2001 with a huge haul of RDX, grenades, launchers, detonotors and other explosives.
With their arrest, police had then, claimed to have solved six blast cases including 2001 Sena Bhavan blast.
However, the court on February 23 had acquitted the four accused in all the six cases for lack of evidence except
the present one in which it found them guilty for possessing explosives to wage war against the country in 2001.
