In a gesture of goodwill Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has donated Rs 1 lakh to a young girl in Varanasi, Rani Verma. Rani, despite having lost both her arms in an accident, has continued to study after learning how to write with her leg.

'Rani Verma of Dallipur Village, Badagaav, Varanasi lost both her hands in an accident when she was studying in the fifth standard. Despite the severe handicap Rani Verma continued her education and the 14-year-old has appeared in the matriculation exam using her feet to write the exams', a press note issued by the PMO said.

Moved by her courage and determination to beat all odds, Dr Singh has granted Rs 1 lakh, which would be deposited in her father's bank account and who shall draw the interest to continue her education and meet other needs. Rs 1 lakh would be given to her when she turns18.
