President A P J Abdul Kalam on Saturday said he decided against running for a second term as he did not want to be "party" to a political process and damage the name of Rashtrapati Bhavan.

"In five years time in Rashtrapati Bhavan, we have all worked for transforming it into a people's Bhavan. Rashtrapati Bhavan has become a people's Bhavan today. I believe it should be an example for the nation. It should not get degenerated. That is why I said enough is enough," he said in an interaction with PTI journalists at its headquarters in Delhi.

Replying to a question on his statement on Friday that he would not run for a second term as he did not want Rashtrapati Bhavan to be involved in a political process, Kalam said, "Once you are interested and you are a President, then you have to propagate as a candidate.

"I did not want to damage the name of the Rashtrapati Bhavan, which has been made into a people's Bhavan during my tenure," he said.
