Navjot Singh Sidhu, former cricketer, took the oath as member of parliament from Amritsar parliamentary consitutency as the nominee of Bhartiya Janata party on Wednesday.
Speaking to rediff.com Sidhu said that there was no difference between the Shiromani Akali Dal headed by Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal and the BJP on any issue including the appointment of deputy chief ministership.
"The SAD and BJP are united and there are no differences between us whatsoever and as far as the appointment of deputy chief ministership we would sort out the matter in a mutual consultations and not through the media," he said.
He declared that there was no enmity between him and captain Amarinder Singh, former chief minister of the state. "The people have broken his pride. The chapter between him and myself stands closed. The people of the state have broken his ego. Being elder Captain Amarinder Singh would continue to get the same respect, which he deserves. Though I led the campaign in the state on behalf of the party but the credit for the victory must go to our party leadership. I am merely a soldier," he said.
Talking about the forthcoming world cup he said that when Indian team left for England in 1983 no had expected that Kapil and his men would win the world cup. "But as luck would have it we not only reached the finals but managed to defeat mighty West Indians. The pitches in West Indies are slow and suited to Indian players. We should do well," he pointed out.
Responding to a question to name four Indian players who would click for the country Sidhu said that his eyes would be firmly focussed on Rahul Dravid, Zahir Khan, Ganguly and Dhoni. Regarding sachin he said "...he is a master and a master is always a master. No one should have any double about his ability to click. The Indian team is in top condition and to guide them through we have Guru Greg Chappell. With little luck we could lift the cup."
