The onset of southwest monsoon over Kerala has been delayed by three to four days due to unfavourable weather conditions in the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea.

"The monsoon onset over Kerala is not likely between the next three to four days," the Meteorological department said on Wednesday.

The Met department had earlier forecast the onset of monsoon over Kerala on May 24, over a week ahead of its scheduled arrival on June 1.

The weather office said the southwest monsoon had set over the Andaman on May 10, eight days in advance. However, a cyclonic storm over east-central Bay of Bengal had disrupted the flow of monsoon.

The progress of monsoon was also affected due to development of unfavourable weather conditions over the Arabian Sea as well. Monsoon is slowly organising back after this disruption.
