Unhappy with the changes effected in Tuesday's reshuffle in the Bharatiya Janata Party, general secretary Arun Jaitley rushed to Nagpur, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh headquarters on Tuesday night.

According to sources, Jaitley, who feels let down by being kept out of action in four states going to the polls during the next one and half years was in the Sangh headquarters and returned Wednesday morning.

The states going to the polls are Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Chhattisgarh and Jaitley has no role in any of these states.

Though the details of his meetings are not known, the sources said the lone functionary present in the headquarters was Suresh Soni who handles relations with RSS and BJP.

Jaitley, regarded as the chief strategist steered the party to success in several states in the last Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, and Punjab recently, was removed as spokesman six months ago.

As a Rajya Sabha MP from Gujarat, Jaitley was expecting to be in-charge of Gujarat state and his post in UP after elections holds no charm as no elections are due till the next Parliamentary elections in 2009.

Jaitley, after Tuesday's reshuffle, has maintained that he viewed his UP assignment as an opportunity to turn the fortunes of the BJP in country's biggest and populous state.

After Pramod Mahajan's death, the BJP general secretary was expecting the party to recognise his contribution and allow him to be secretary of BJP's decision making bodies of Parliamentary Board as well as Central Election Committee.

He has only one role -- the secretary of Parliamentary Board, while another general secretary Ananth Kumar is the secretary of the Election Committee, the sources added.
