With the Central Reserve Police Force not being allowed to enter trouble-torn Nandigram, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Monday urged the Prime Minister's Office and the Union home ministry to ensure that the central forces are deployed in the area.
"Mamata Banerjee spoke to the PMO and Union home ministry and apprised them of the situation," TC general-secretary and MP Mukul Roy said.
Roy said the CRPF personnel, who arrived on Sunday, were camping in Tamluk and at Chandipur, and that Banerjee, who left Kolkata on Friday, was prevented from going to Nandigram as Communist Party of India-Marxist activists put up blockades at different entry points.
Banerjee, who had managed to enter Tamluk on a motorbike from Kolaghat on Sunday after her convoy was stopped, was staying in Tamluk. He said the the CPI-M's recapture of Nandigram was complete and alleged that thousands of people were being beaten up and driven out of their homes. "The CPI-M hoodlums from their stronghold of Khejuri are searching for supporters of the Bhumi Ucched Pratirodh Committee," he said.
