The Revolutionary Socialist Party, a constituent of the Left Front government in West Bengal, on Friday condemned the state government's decision to pack off controversial Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen to Jaipur.
"It is a condemnable decision to send her to Rajasthan," said RSP leader Abani Roy.
He said that Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhatacharya should not have allowed this to happen.
When asked whether Bhatacharya took the step under pressure from Muslim fundamentalists, Roy said, "She was given shelter in Bengal by the chief minister and I do not know who has put pressure on him to send her to Jaipur."
Speaking about the United Progressive Alliance government's role, the RSP member of Parliament said, "I do not think it has been done at the behest of the Centre."
Rajya Sabha MP Shobhna Bharatia termed the incident most unfortunate. "It is a knee jerk reaction by the state government. She had always considered Kolkata as her second home," she said.
Nasreen was shifted to Jaipur on Thursday after widespread violence in Kolkata over a demand for her deportation.
She, however, left for Delhi on Friday morning following security concerns after a Muslim outfit, All India Mili Council, threatened to hold demonstrations in the city if the Bangladeshi writer was kept in the state for long.
CPM leader Biman Bose had earlier said that Nasreen should leave the state if her presence there disturbed peace. He, however, withdrew his statement on Thursday.
