A Central Bureau of Investigation inspector, who is part of the investigating agency's anti-corruption unit, was found dead at the rail tracks near Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station.

The inspector, Sultan Singh, is alleged to have committed suicide, police sources said, quoting eye-witnesses who had crossed  the railway track yesterday afternoon.

Singh, who was also assisting in the recent case involving former Uttar Pradesh chief secretary Akhand Pratap Singh, was described as a brilliant investigating officer by his seniors, who said it was a great loss as he was one of the dedicated officers".

According to the sources, Singh left his Sadiq Nagar residence late in the afternoon yesterday and without taking his cellphone. His family came to know about the tragedy after they started making frantic calls when neither he turned up in office nor returned home.

The CBI officials were investigating the calls received on his cell phone and the circumstances under which he had allegedly committed suicide, the sources said. Some of the distant family members were alleging that he was being harrassed at the work place by his superiors, a charge dismissed by the CBI saying that he was a quiet worker and shared a good equation with all.
