The report states that in 2007, there are 831 females per 1000 males in the city as opposed to only 822 females per 1000 males in 2005. However, this is a significant improvement when compared to the 2001 statistics, when there were only 809 females per 1000 males in Delhi.
The city still has a long way to go to match up to the accepted international ratio of 952 females per 1000 males.
The government has prepared this report on the basis of facts and figures available at 40 major hospitals in Delhi. According to the report, both birth and death rates in Delhi are lower while compared to other cities across the country.
While the birth rate in Delhi was recorded at 19.95 per 1000, the death rate is 6.11. The national birth rate is way higher at 23.8 while the death rate stands at 7.60.
The report also states that the infant mortality death rate in the city has decreased considerably from the national average of 58. In Delhi, the infant mortality rate is only 18.05 per 1000 births.
According to the report, the capital city has the highest ratio of institutional deliveries of 78 per cent.
