The Supreme Court on Monday issued notices to former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, his MP son Akhilesh Yadav, daughter-in-law Dimple Yadav and another son Prateek Yadav on an application filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation, seeking further directions from it in the disproportionate assets case against them.
A bench comprising Justices C K Thakker and Altamas Kabir granted four weeks to the respondents to file their responses.
The CBI, in its application, informed the Supreme Court that the preliminary enquiry against Yadav and his family members was complete and was ready to file the status report before the court to seek further directions in the matter.
Vishwanath Chaturvedi, the petitioner, sought a CBI inquiry against the Yadavs for allegedly acquiring assets worth over Rs 100 crore through corrupt means, during his tenure as the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh.
The apex court had directed the CBI on March 1 of this year to conduct preliminary investigation to find out whether a prima facie case was made out against them.
If the court permits, the CBI may register a regular case and file a chargesheet under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
