External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday said no international treaty in the recent past has been subjected to Parliament's scrutiny, including India's agreement with the erstwhile Soviet Union.
Pranab, who lost his cool with a scribe who asked him why the government is not keen to constitute a Joint Parliament Committee to look into the Indo-US nuclear 123 agreement, said, "We are running a government with the help of the Left parties and we have a coordination committee to run the government. This is an internal arrangement. But the JPC is a committee of parliamentarians.
"I went to meet [senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Lal Kishenchand] Advaniji on Wednesday and I requested him to allow a discussion on serious issues like Sachar Committee and the 123 Agreement, but he did not commit. Today they stalled the proceedings in the House," he explained.
