Reacting to the 'fatwa' issued by a Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president M Karunanidhi for his remarks on Lord Ram, United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi has called for overcoming such problems by acting in unison.

In a telephonic talk with DMK parliamentary party leader and Union Minister T R Baalu on Sunday night, Sonia said, "Let us continue to concentrate on pubic service without being cowed down by such threats."

Baalu had dashed off letters to Sonia and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, demanding stern action against the former Bharatiya Janata Party Member of Parliament and VHP leader Ram Vilas Vedanti for issuing the 'fatwa'.

Following Vedanti's 'fatwa' that he would reward with gold anyone who beheaded Karunanidhi or cut his tongue for questioning the existence of Lord Ram, DMK cadre had attacked the offices of the BJP, VHP and Hindu Munnani in Chennai and registered their protest across the state on Sunday.
