Dubbing the organisational changes in Congress as a 'family matter', the Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday said that it was a clear indication that the ruling party also believed that mid-term elections were imminent.
"It is a family matter. But whatever it may be, it has proved that the Congress believes that the elections are approaching and they are gearing up for it," senior leader Venkaiah Naidu said in New Delhi on Tuesday.
"Now the Congress is revamping its organisation to face the elections which would be in 2008 itself," he said.
Asked if his party would have any reservations if Rahul Gandhi, who was made the Congress general secretary on Monday, is projected as a prime ministerial candidate, Naidu said there was, "no need for any such opposition."
"There is no match, no marriage and hence there is no question of a delivery. Where is the question of anyone (from Congress) becoming the prime ministerial candidate when the United Progressive Alliance is losing ground on all fronts," Naidu said.
Meanwhile, the BJP has announced a three-month mass campaign in anticipation of the "imminent elections."
"We are planning a massive campaign in the coming months and our target is to have booth-level committees across the country by the end of the year," he said. "Our senior leaders will hold public meetings in every part of the country in October," Naidu added.
