Burns may undertake a brief visit next week but no dates have been fixed yet, sources said.

During the possible visit, he will hold talks with Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon, mainly discussing the remaining steps in implementation of the Indo-US nuclear deal.

The immediate step is to seek a waiver from the 45-nation NSG for India to allow it to have civil nuclear trade with the international community.

The NSG is meeting on August 21 and 22 in Vienna to consider the waiver that has to be approved by consensus.
