The Bharatiya Janata Party has demanded that People's Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti be arrested for making 'provocative statements' during her press conference in New Delhi on Sunday.

Don't use repressive measures: Mehbooba Mufti

"The kind of separatist statements that she has made….she should have been immediately arrested and put behind the bars. Jail is the rightful place for a person like Mehbooba Mufti. She is spreading venom and if the senior leaders asked for an explanation for her statements during the all-party conference, they didn't do anything wrong," senior BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said on Monday.

Amarnath row rocks Jammu & Kashmir

He wondered if the inaction of the central government, in spite of Mufti's 'provocative statements', has anything to do with the fact that she was part of the United Progressive Alliance. He also demanded to know why former chief minister Ghulam Navi Azad has maintained silence over the recent developments in the state.

'We didn't anticipate such a reaction from Jammu'

During her press conference, Mufti had ruled out allotting land to the Sri Amarnath Shrine Board Samiti.

In another development, the Shri Amarnath Sangarsh Samiti has extended their agitation till the end of August, after their talks with a panel set up by J&K Governor N N Vohra ended inconclusively.

'We need to talk to the Kashmiris'
