Amid India's suspicions of the involvement of the Inter Services Intelligence in the planning of Mumbai terror strikes, the chief of the Pakistani spy agency on Friday called on Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani in Islamabad.
The Director General of the ISI, Lieutenant General Ahmed Shuja Pasha, met Gilani and briefed him on the prevailing security situation, an official statement said.
No further details about the meeting were available.
India has blamed elements based in Pakistan for the Mumbai attacks, with reports saying that New Delhi has proof that the ISI was involved in planning the carnage and training the terrorists.
Last week, Gilani accepted his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh's request to send the ISI chief to India to assist in the probe into the November 26 attacks that claimed 200 lives.
The government later backtracked, apparently under pressure from the military, and said only a representative of the spy agency would be sent to India.
The chief of Pakistan's powerful military on Thursday met his top generals and reviewed the army's operational preparedness.
General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani chaired a meeting of the corps commanders to take stock of the security situation.
