The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday hinted that it could resort to legal action in the cash-for-vote scam after a parliamentary panel gave a clean chit to senior political leaders Amar Singh and Ahmad Patel.
"The legal option is open for us and this report would certainly lower the credibility of parliamentary committees like this," party spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said.
Those who gave bribes have been left out and the whistle blowers have been directed to the procedures of breach of privilege, he added.
BJP MPs Ashok Argal, Mahavir Bhagora and Faggan Singh Kulaste had alleged that bribes were offered to them for abstaining from voting in support of the government during the July 22 trust vote. They accused Samajwadi Party leader Singh and Congress leader Patel of offering the money, a charge the two leaders denied.
Referring Sanjeev Saxena's case for further inquiry by the parliamentary panel and giving a clean chit to Amar Singh raises doubts on the probe, the BJP said.
"Referring Sanjeev Saxena for special investigation and leaving Amar Singh free while the proximity of Saxena with Singh is amply established raises doubts on the panel probe," he said.
All of us are deeply saddened by the report where a serious issue of political morality and integrity has been determined not by evidences but by majority, Prasad said.
